Let’s Talk Side Hustles, Salaries, COVID Career Pivots + More

In this session, we’ll talk about the things we’re sometimes sensitive to get into as young professionals. How do we start a side hustle? What side hustles exist? Should we be honest with our employer about it? How about respectfully negotiating a salary or asking for a raise? Finally – and maybe most importantly – how do we successfully make a career pivot? Sometimes we aren’t personally or  professionally satisfied, and sometimes unforeseen circumstances hit – it’s just important to know that either way, there IS a way.

Moderator

  • Cherie Hu, Owner, Water & Music

Panelists

  • Charlene Bryant, Founder, Riveter Management
  • Evangeline Elder, CEO & Co-founder, Women Sound Off; Partnerships, EMPIRE
  • Chris Martignago, Director A&R and Research, Atlantic Records

Breakouts

Attendees will have the opportunity to attend one of the three professional development conversations below:

1) How To Do It: Side Hustles, Main Hustles, Mini Hustles + More
Sometimes side hustles are absolutely necessary to stay financially stable, but sometimes they can be seen as a threat to a full-time employer. Sometimes these side hustles show you they are really meant to be your main hustle and vice versa. In this intimate discussion, we’ll tackle the tough topic from the previous panel and walk through how to come to a happy medium – which may mean a million mini hustles as an independent contractor.

3 – 3:50 PM
Random Group Meetups
Join us as attendees all enter a large “Zoom Room” and we randomly pair up everyone into small groups of 3-4 for speed networking. We’ll do three sessions – all 15 mins each – so make sure you’re on time! You never know what magic could come out of these impromptu meetings!

4 – 4:50 PM
Getting Involved: Create Change, Impact & Community At The Same Time

You don’t have to be a veteran music industry executive to get involved with organizations that can create change outside of your 9 to 5. Whether it’s joining junior boards (or even the executive ones) or hitting up your industry trade association with an idea, there are strategic ways to engage and impact. When doing so however, you’ll want to be cognizant of how you manage your time and respectfully leverage your biz relationships without overstepping. Join this special panel to get the real deal on being involved from young execs who’ve been there, done that and are still searching for answers themselves.
