July 19, 2018 – Global Concert Sales Hit A Record High In The First Half of 2018… But So Did Average Ticket Prices
The world’s Top 50 best-selling tours of the first half of 2018 generated a record $2.21 billion — up 12% year-on-year by $240 million. However, alongside the rise in revenues, the average ticket price also hit an all-time high of $96.31 according to Pollstar’s mid-year statistics. Music subscribers are some of the most influential consumer segments that advertisers may wish to reach. This group – perhaps unsurprisingly – spend the most time with audio-based content of all consumers. This is true across all of the following audio only behaviors: using voice control (24% do so compared with a 9% consumer average); listening to podcasts (27% do so, compared with a 10% consumer average); and listening to music in a car (69% compared with a 55% consumer average).... Thanks to Merlin being the licensing body for the independent sector, many more record labels and distributors have been able to participate in the astronomical expansion in adoption of digital music services all over the world…Thanks to Merlin, independents have not been locked out of the catalogues of music services just because they lack the scale to cut deals. July 12, 2018 – Indie Labels Now Account For 14 Billion Streams Monthly
Most artists and bands would prefer to be signed to a major label instead of an indie, but the fact of the matter is that indies are gaining strength, especially where streaming is concerned. Indie label association Merlin (which consists of more than 20,000 indie labels, imprints and small distributors) reported that its member’s streams have now grown to around 14 billion per month, up by 37% over last year at the same time. click here for more...
