Music Business Association Renames Scholarship Foundation In Memoriam of Staffer Braylin Campbell

Updated scholarship criteria will better align with Association’s
B2B nature and support more future industry leaders

December 3, 2024 — The Music Business Association (Music Biz) announces the renaming of the Braylin Campbell Memorial Music Business Scholarship Foundation, in honor of Music Biz’s colleague who unexpectedly passed away in August of 2024. Music Biz has unveiled a new visual identity to accompany the Foundation’s name change, incorporating a lighthouse to symbolize both Campbell’s illuminating energy and the safe harbor that financial assistance provides to today’s music business students. “Though she spent just two short years with Music Biz, Braylin left an indelible mark on the hearts of everyone on our team, as well as those with whom she crossed paths,” said Music Biz President, Portia Sabin. “As we rename our Scholarship Foundation in her honor, we’ve also worked to change our application criteria so we can support more students from more institutions. In doing so, we hope to help be a bright guiding light for future generations of music industry leaders, just as Braylin was for both our team and for those in our community who had the pleasure of knowing her.”

The Foundation will continue the work it started back in 1966 of providing monies to the next generation of music business professionals. Along with the Foundation’s new name, Music Biz has shared updated criteria to apply for and receive financial aid:

  • Going forward, Academic Partner institutions will apply for monies from the Scholarship Foundation, as opposed to students directly applying for financial aid. This best aligns with Music Biz’s status as a B2B organization.
  • Monies from the Foundation will be given to established financial aid funds within these institutions, allowing their staff with more intimate knowledge of their student body to make informed decisions on who receives financial aid. By giving monies to established funds, it also opens up possibilities for students to use monies for more than just tuition, including travel to internships, study abroad programs, music business conferences, and beyond.
  • Awards will be given in $10,000 increments to institutions that demonstrate the most need after completing the application. The number of awards given will vary year-to-year based on monies raised. Academic partners can access the application by contacting Sonya Askew, Music Biz’s Membership Director.

Donations to the Braylin Campbell Memorial Music Business Scholarship Foundation of any amount can be made throughout the year via both the donation form linked here and through Music Biz’s Scholarship Foundation website.
