Music Biz forms committees to effectively address major issues affecting our industry as a whole, both professionally and personally
Current active committees are as follows:
Education Committee
Our Education Committee seeks to promote awareness of and access to the professional paths available in the music industry for today’s students via education, events, and financial support. We will grow the Braylin Campbell Memorial Music Business Scholarship Foundation through fundraising efforts, increasing and diversifying our academic partner schools, and creating educational and career-building events for students and educators.
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee
Our Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee works to enact meaningful, measurable change in the music industry by collaborating with other individuals and groups making strides in the space. To this end, we prioritize diversity of all races, genders, sexual orientations and disabilities on our board, in our membership and at our events, to ensure that ALL industry professionals have a seat at the table.
Physical Business Action Committee
Our Physical Business Action Committee was initially formed to give a voice to physical product retailers in response to the rising prominence of digital music commerce in the 2010s. With physical music sales surging in the post-COVID era, the committee now works to level the playing field across physical, digital and streaming formats by promoting the value of physical music retailers of all sizes to their local communities, music makers and the industry as a whole. The committee also curates the Let’s Talk Physical event series which provides vital updates on everything the physical business needs to stay ahead of the curve as physical music consumption continues to rise.
Past Music Biz committees were formed to address issues surrounding: Business Development, Digital Marketing, Metric & Sales Analysis, Artist Management & Touring, Legal & Business Affairs, Information Technology, Digital Operations & Metadata, and Subscription Services.
Most recently, our Spin Fraud Task Force, which was created to assess and collaboratively deal with aspects of fraud in the music industry, was folded into the daily activities of the Music Fights Fraud Alliance (MFFA). Music Biz continues to work closely with the MFFA to ensure all stakeholders are taking part in these important discussions and working toward the creation of potential solutions.
