[WEEKLY SALES] Kendrick Lamar’s Earns Highest Debut of 2017 with ‘DAMN’

James Donio, President of the Music Business Association (Music Biz), commented on this week’s sales numbers issued by Nielsen (published in Billboard) and BuzzAngle Music (published in HITS Daily Double).

Kendrick Lamar kept Hip-Hop’s chart momentum going by hitting #1 on the Nielsen and BuzzAngle Music charts with DAMN., the best-selling album of 2017 so far. The album moved more than 600,000 units to give Lamar his third chart-topper and put him in exclusive company as one of only three artists who have hit #1 in 2015, 2016, and 2017. And with the other two acts being Drake and Future, Hip-Hop appears to have entered a golden age on the sales charts. Other notable debuts this week include John Mayer at #2 with The Search for Everything on the Billboard and BuzzAngle charts and The Fate of the Furious soundtrack at #10 on the Billboard 200. Next week, we’ll be watching closely to see the effect of this past weekend’s Record Store Day on the charts. We’ll also be keeping an eye on new releases from Brad Paisley and Incubus as well as the Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2: Awesome Mix, Vol. 2 soundtrack album.”
