[WEEKLY SALES] DJ Khaled Earns First #1 Album; Dethrones Drake
Music Biz President James Donio commented on the recent sales figures released by Nielsen (published in Billboard) and BuzzAngle Music:
It was a big week for new releases on the Nielsen and BuzzAngle Music charts, with four debuting albums reaching the Top 10 and a brand new #1 record from Hip-Hop producer DJ Khaled, his first ever. Khaled’s Major Key moved 95,000 equivalent album units (including 59,000 in traditional album sales) to reach the summit and push Drake’s Views to #2. Major Key’s massive hit single, ‘For Free,’ also features Drake, illustrating once more the incredible chart power he continues to hold. Other major debuts this week include Country artist Jake Owen’s American Love, former American Idol winner Fantasia’s The Definition Of…, and Lady Antebellum side project Hillary Scott & The Scott Family’s Love Remains. Next week, we’ll be watching to see whether the Suicide Squad soundtrack can reach #1 on the strength of its film’s record-breaking opening this past weekend.
