Music Biz Member The MLC Debuts “DURP” Portal For Independent Music Distributors
The Mechanical Licensing Collective (MLC) has unveiled its newest tool to help artists leverage their publicly available data set to maximize their royalty payments: the Distributor Unmatched Recordings Portal (DURP). The platform allows users to search the MLC’s data for their unmatched sound recordings, so they can more easily track the works they can register with the MLC to claim any outstanding royalty payments. Through the debut of the DURP portal, the MLC hopes to encourage more and more rightsholders to ensure their works are properly registered so they can receive royalties owed to them on time.
“Our data has identified millions of dollars in unmatched digital audio mechanical royalties due to creators for songs they’ve recorded and released through more than 1,800 independent music distributors, aggregators and labels around the world,” explains the MLC’s Head of Third-Party Partnerships, Dae Bogan, who is heading up the initiative. “By giving these companies visibility into the data, we can help them serve their customers better and help The MLC reduce unclaimed royalties.”
