Drake’s ‘Views’ Spends Five Weeks at #1; Moves Additional 152,000 Units
Music Biz President James Donio commented on the recent sales figures released by Nielsen (published in Billboard) and BuzzAngle Music:
It’s official! Drake’s Views has now spent five straight weeks at #1 on the Nielsen and BuzzAngle Music charts, tying Michael Bublé’s Christmas for most frames at the top for a male artist since 2011. Views moved another 152,000 album equivalent units this week, impressively with the overwhelming majority coming from streaming equivalent albums (92,000). This provides even more evidence that streaming is now a key part of the music consumption mix. Elsewhere on the charts, rising Country star Dierks Bentley scored his best debut yet with Black, landing at #2 on both charts, while other significant debuts included Pop group Fifth Harmony with 7/27 and Electronic artist Flume with Skin. Next week, we’ll be closely following new releases from Paul Simon, Volbeat, Maren Morris, Tegan and Sara, and Rebelution to see whether they can challenge Drake’s reign.
