Drake Ties Eminem For Most Weeks #1 By A Male Artist Since 2000
Music Biz President James Donio commented on the recent sales figures released by Nielsen (published in Billboard) and BuzzAngle Music:
Drake held off another strong challenge this week to notch his eighth consecutive week at #1 with Views, moving another 124,000 album equivalent units of which 70,000 came from SEAs. The album has now tied Eminem’s The Marshall Mathers LP for most weeks at #1 by a male artist since 2000 and is only the fourth Hip-Hop album of all time to spend that long at the top. It was a close race, though, with Rock and Roll Hall of Famers the Red Hot Chili Peppers moving 118,000 album equivalent units of The Getaway. It’s their seventh Top 10 album and third #2. Other big debuts came from Rapper YG and Folk-Rock superstars Mumford & Sons. Next week, we’ll see whether Drake can make it nine in a row.
