[WEEKLY SALES] Drake Shifts 92,000 Units To Return To #1
Music Biz President James Donio commented on the recent sales figures released by Nielsen (published in Billboard) and BuzzAngle Music:
Drake is back at #1 on the Nielsen and BuzzAngle Music charts with Views, which sold another 92,000 equivalent album units (including 58,000 streaming equivalent albums) this week. It’s the album’s 10th non-consecutive week in the top spot, only the 10th record in the last 20 years to reach that mark, joining the elite ranks of Adele, Taylor Swift, Backstreet Boys, Santana, Alanis Morrissette, and the Titanic and Frozen soundtracks. But Drake wasn’t the only Hip-Hop artist to make a splash on the charts this week, as ScHoolboy Q landed his second Top 10 album with Blank Face LP at #2. Rock also fared well, with Chevelle’s The North Corridor debuting in the Top 10 of both the Billboard 200 and BuzzAngle Music chart, while Switchfoot’s Where the Light Shines Through hit #10 on the Billboard chart. Next week, we’ll see whether Drake can hold on to #1 in the face of stiff competition from Needtobreathe, the Kidz Bop 32 compilation, and Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler’s solo album We’re All Somebody from Somewhere.”
