Blink 182 Moves 186,000 Units To Dethrone Drake
Music Biz President James Donio commented on the recent sales figures released by Nielsen (published in Billboard) and BuzzAngle Music:
Veteran Pop-Punk band Blink-182 got their groove back in a big way this week, moving 186,000 album equivalent units (including 172,000 in traditional sales) of new album California to dethrone Drake’s Views at #1 on the Nielsen and BuzzAngle Music charts. It’s the band’s second chart-topper, seventh Top 10 record, biggest sales week since 2003, and the third-best week for any Rock album this year. The feat pushed Drake’s Views to #2 for the first time since its release, breaking its streak of nine weeks at the top. Following him on both charts was returning R&B master Maxwell, whose blackSUMMERS’night ably followed up 2009’s BLACKsummers’night to become his fourth Top 10 album. Next week, we’ll see whether Drake can retake #1 in the face of competition from fellow Rapper Schoolboy Q’s Blank Face LP.
