[WEEKLY SALES] Lady Gaga Scores Fourth Chart Topper with ‘Joanne’

Music Biz President James Donio commented on the recent sales figures released by Nielsen (published in Billboard) and BuzzAngle Music (published in HITS):

It was a big week for Lady Gaga, who topped the Nielsen and BuzzAngle Music charts with her new album, Joanne. It’s Gaga’s fourth chart-topper and the fourth-biggest launch of 2016, with sales driven by an all-out promotional blitz that saw her perform on Saturday Night Live, participate in James Corden’s The Late Late Show’s ‘Carpool Karaoke’ segment, appear on Howard Stern’s SiriusXM show, and complete her dive bar tour in Los Angeles, all during the album’s debut week. Gaga was joined in the Top 10 by six other debuting albums, including Michael Bublé’s Nobody but Me at #2, Pentatonix’s A Pentatonix Christmas at #3, and Korn’s The Serenity of Suffering at #4, the first time each of the Top 4 titles have been new releases since December 2015. Next week, we’ll be watching to see how new albums from Kenny Chesney, Avenged Sevenfold, Jeezy, and Tove Lo fare against a slate of new holiday releases from Brett Eldredge, Kacey Musgraves, Jennifer Nettles, Neil Diamond, She & Him, and Jimmy Buffett.
