The Music Biz conference has grown steadily over the four years we have hosted it in Nashville, topping 2,200 attendees in 2018 for the first time since 2003. The music business sensibility of Nashville and its Music City Music Council aligns so well with our efforts on behalf of music services, stores, labels, artists, songwriters, managers, publishers, entrepreneurs, startups, educators, students, and everyone else in or looking to break into the industry. For the past three years, the Music Biz conference has hosted an LGBTQ-themed discussion panel in association with GLAAD (the Gay & Lesbian Association Against Defamation), and there’s little question that this year’s — “The Power of Queer Storytelling in Song” — was the most ambitious and resonant to date. It brought together four successful singer/songwriters, each of whom shared deeply personal stories about the challenges they faced in their respective lives and careers. May 8, 2018 – IN THE NEWS: Music Biz Marks 60th Anniversary Amid Great Change
When the Music Business Association (also known as Music Biz) stages its 60th anniversary conference in Nashville May 14-17, the industry organization will honor Ed Sheeran, Nile Rodgers, Julia Michaels and the late Russ Solomon, the legendary founder of Tower Records. Solomon, who died March 4 at the age of 92, was once the most celebrated music retailer in the world. He will be posthumously honored by the association on May 17 as the first inductee into its newly launched Music Business Hall of Fame.... Read More
